Taylor County Marine & Natural Resources Home

Taylor County has a very long coastline compared to most other Florida counties, and includes multiple coastal rivers such as the Aucilla, Ecofina, Fenholloway and Steinhatchee. A vast majority of the land is in timber production, with low human population levels (approximately 22,000). The coastal areas of the Big Bend include vast tracts of seagrass meadows, but has very shallow inshore waters bordered by a large coastal floodplain with tremendous potential for coastal flooding in major storm events. The Sea Grant program in Taylor County will implement educational programs and distribute materials that promote the sustainable use of natural resources in our important coastal living areas.
