On November 17, 2016, Florida Sea Grant teamed up with Brevard County Extension and the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council to present the workshop “Sea-Level Rise and Flooding: Planning & Law for Local Governments” in Brevard County, Florida. Workshop attendees included local government attorneys—including 8 of 9 attorneys from the Brevard County Attorney’s Office, engineers, planners, and public works directors as well as elected officials, and private consultants. Evaluations indicated overwhelmingly that participants agreed or strongly agreed that the program met or exceeded their expectations and 100% indicated that they would recommend the program to a friend. Participants also took advantage of their evaluations to make substantive suggestions for future programming.
This was the second workshop in a new series of workshops on local government law and policy related to sea-level rise and flooding. Florida Sea Grant is working with local partners for similar future workshops in other parts of Florida during 2017.For more information, contact Thomas Ruppert, truppert@ufl.edu.
