Healthy oceans and coasts provide essential nursery grounds for fish, and homes for manatees, wading birds, and other wildlife. As such, they are critical in supporting commercial fisheries and recreational fishing and diving. Unfortunately, coastal habitats face numerous threats ranging from invasive species to water pollution.
Since its inception, one of Florida Sea Grant’s primary missions has been educating Floridians and visitors about protecting and restoring marine habitats. Our efforts have led to artificial reefs, derelict crab trap removals, beach cleanups, mangrove and sea oat replanting and oyster reef restoration programs that have improved or restored thousands of acres of critical estuarine habitat.
