The organizing committee of the 4th National Working Waterfronts Symposium invites any individual involved with working waterfronts and waterways to submit an abstract or session proposal by April 15, 2015. The symposium will take place November 16-19, 2015 in Tampa.
The symposium showcases innovative solutions that coastal communities use to strike a balance among multiple and competing demands such as population growth, development and shifting land-ownership patterns. The conference goal is to increase the capacity of these communities and their stakeholders to make informed decisions, balance diverse uses, ensure public access, and plan for the future of their working waterfronts. Working waterfronts are those areas occupied by commercial fisheries, marine industries and other water-dependent businesses.
The symposium is not just an academic conference. Organizers strongly encourage a diversity of presentation topics and speaker affiliations, especially those which can share practical information and tools related to recreational boating, waterfront industries, working waterfront workforce development, climate change, and maritime culture and heritage.
There will be four types of presentations available:
- Individual Oral Presentation: A single speaker proposing a single presentation of approximately 20 minutes. The Program Committee will organize individual presentations to develop 90-minute breakout sessions based on the topics of accepted abstracts.
- Breakout “Panel” Session: A panel of speakers (max. 4 total) proposing to present on topics related to a specific theme. Proposed panel sessions will be considered for stand-alone, 90-minute breakout sessions.
- Individual Poster Presentation: Individuals proposing to feature their work through a self-explanatory visual presentation. Note: Presenters are to be stationed by their poster for discussion during the continental breakfast on Thursday, November 19th.
- Roundtable Discussion Session: Proposals for 90-minute breakout sessions designed to engage the participants in an interactive, facilitated discussion session. Due to the format of roundtable sessions, only a limited number can be accommodated. If selected, such sessions will be scheduled during the morning sessions on Wednesday, November 18th.
