Florida Sea Grant is hosting a series of workshops centered around sea-level rise planning. The second workshop of the series will take place Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the UF/IFAS Extension office in Brevard County located at 3695 Lake Drive, Cocoa Fla., 32926.
The workshop,“Sea-Level Rise and Flooding: Planning and Law for Local Governments,” will offer professional credits for participation that include CLE, CEC, CM, and CEU. To register, visit Sea-Level Rise and Flooding: Planning and Law for Local Governments.

Attendance Fee: $75 for public sector/non-profit entities; $100 for private/business. Register HERE.

- A brief overview of sea-level rise and flooding projections relevant to the area
- Key infrastructure and financial challenges associated with sea-level rise impacts
- Examples of pro-active local government assessment of vulnerabilities through data collection and analysis
- An overview of financial and regulatory challenges related to SLR and ways to assist local government in understanding and addressing these challenges
- Key legal issues with road and drainage impacts of sea-level rise while highlighting actual local government responses and discussing additional potential responses
- Detailed information on recent state law changes that mention sea-level rise in the context of required coastal management elements of comprehensive plans and work of Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity on sea-level rise
- The importance of engaging the public in decision making and showcase local government work to engage the public in policy and implementation issues related to sea-level rise and climate change
Future workshops will also be organized for southeast Florida, southwest Florida, the Tampa Bay area, and the Florida Panhandle.
