Biennial Call for Applied Science Projects

Florida Sea Grant is now accepting letters of Intent (LOI) for two-year applied science projects to be funded during FY 2022-2024. The call identifies science priorities and interventions pertaining to three broad areas of program focus: Healthy Coastal Ecosystems; Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture; and Hazard-Resilient Communities, which encourage interdisciplinary and actionable science.

We encourage projects and collaborations among a diverse community of scientists affiliated with Florida’s academic institutions, agencies, organizations, and/or industry.

New for this funding cycle:

1. Emphasis on addressing priority issues and interventions.
2. Emphasis on integrating, measuring and valuing benefits accrued from the science.
3. Development of partnerships among investigators and end-users of the science.
4. Encouragement for projects that address diversity, equity and inclusion.

Key dates:

2021     

• January 13: Call for Science Projects Release Date
• February 15: Letters of Intent Due by 3 PM EST
• April 21: Investigators Notified of Results of LOI Review
• May 5: Investigators Notify Florida Sea Grant with Intention to Submit Full Proposals
• June 4: Full Proposals Due by 3 PM EDT
• August 13: Investigators Notified if Full Proposal Successful
• September 3: Principal Investigator Written Response to External Reviews Due (if applicable)

2022: New projects start. The date when funds are released depends on when they are provided to Florida Sea Grant by NOAA, and this in turn depends on Federal appropriations.

On behalf of the Steering Committee for the South Atlantic Red Snapper Research Program (SARSRP), the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium (Consortium) is pleased to announce the release of the SARSRP Request for Proposals (RFP). The Consortium, through the SARSRP RFP, which is available on the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium website at https://www.scseagrant.org/south-atlantic-red-snapper-research-program, is seeking proposals that support the goal of generating an absolute estimate of abundance with an accompanying measure of uncertainty for the entire South Atlantic red snapper stock. Preference will be given to proposals that seek to produce a single absolute estimate of abundance for the entire geographic region. This estimate will serve as an independent benchmark to inform the 2021 stock assessment and future stock assessments, as it will provide a metric of abundance on what the size of the stock is in the South Atlantic at the present time.

• November 16, 2020 – Letters of Intent due by COB (5:00 pm EST)
• February 1, 2021 – Full proposals due by COB (5:00 pm EST)
