Florida Sea Grant supports the work of scientists and researchers in a wide variety of disciplines from institutions around the state.
Open Opportunities
2022 Aquaculture Funding Opportunities
Two aquaculture NOFO’s (Notice of Federal Funding Opportunities) are available that address the following topics: (1) marine finfish aquaculture juvenile production technologies, and (2) early-stage propagation strategies for aquaculture species.
The direct links for the aquaculture NOFO’s have been posted on Grants.gov.
- NOAA-OAR-SG-2022-2007053 – Early Stage Propagation Strategies for Aquaculture Species
- NOAA-OAR-SG-2022-2007054 – Marine Finfish Aquaculture: Juvenile Production Technologies
Submittal Deadlines
Please follow the above NOFO’s for instructions on submitting to these competitions. A Notice to Submit to these competitions must be received by Florida Sea Grant (via eSeaGrant, instructions below) and the National Sea Grant Office (via electronic mail to oar.hq.sg.aquaculture@noaa.gov) by the dates identified in the NOFO’s.
Please refer to the award announcements for additional details regarding Notice of Submittal development. Please see the instructions below for submitting your Notice to Summit application through eSeaGrant.
Florida Sea Grant encourages prospective investigators to make contact well in advance of the Notice to Submit deadlines for our program so that we may discuss how projects can meet aquaculture priorities, performance measures and outcomes identified in Florida Sea Grant’s strategic plan.

Biennial Call for Applied Science Projects
Biennial Call for Applied Science Projects
Florida Sea Grant is now accepting letters of Intent (LOI) for two-year applied science projects to be funded during FY 2022-2024. The call identifies science priorities and interventions pertaining to three broad areas of program focus: Healthy Coastal Ecosystems; Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture; and Hazard-Resilient Communities, which encourage interdisciplinary and actionable science.
We encourage projects and collaborations among a diverse community of scientists affiliated with Florida’s academic institutions, agencies, organizations, and/or industry.
New for this funding cycle:
- Emphasis on addressing priority issues and interventions.
- Emphasis on integrating, measuring and valuing benefits accrued from the science.
- Development of partnerships among investigators and end-users of the science.
- Encouragement for projects that address diversity, equity and inclusion.
Guidelines for preparing and submitting LOI and full proposals include:
- Funding and proposal information
- Priority issues and interventions
- LOI and full proposal narrative guidelines (LOIs are required for submission of full proposals)
- Review process, evaluation and project selection criteria
Please click here for more information about how to prepare and submit your Letter of Intent and full proposal.
Key dates:
2021
- January 13: Call for Science Projects Release Date
- February 15: Letters of Intent Due by 3 PM EST
- April 21: Investigators Notified of Results of LOI Review
- May 5: Investigators Notify Florida Sea Grant with Intention to Submit Full Proposals
- June 4: Full Proposals Due by 3 PM EDT
- August 13: Investigators Notified if Full Proposal Successful
- September 3: Principal Investigator Written Response to External Reviews Due (if applicable)

South Atlantic Red Snapper Research Program (SARSRP)
South Atlantic Red Snapper Research Program (SARSRP)
“The South Atlantic Red Snapper Count”
Letter of Intent Deadline: November 16, 2020 at 5 PM ET
Full Proposal Deadline: February 1, 2021 at 5 PM ET
Download a PDF of this request for proposals.
On behalf of the Steering Committee for the South Atlantic Red Snapper Research Program (SARSRP), the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium (Consortium) is pleased to announce the release of the SARSRP Request for Proposals (RFP). The Consortium, through the SARSRP RFP, which is available on the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium website at https://www.scseagrant.org/south-atlantic-red-snapper-research-program, is seeking proposals that support the goal of generating an absolute estimate of abundance with an accompanying measure of uncertainty for the entire South Atlantic red snapper stock. Preference will be given to proposals that seek to produce a single absolute estimate of abundance for the entire geographic region. This estimate will serve as an independent benchmark to inform the 2021 stock assessment and future stock assessments, as it will provide a metric of abundance on what the size of the stock is in the South Atlantic at the present time.
Please be aware of the deadlines:
- November 16, 2020 – Letters of Intent due by COB (5:00 pm EST)
- February 1, 2021 – Full proposals due by COB (5:00 pm EST)
Background on the need for this work along with details about the LOI and Full Proposal preparation process can be found in the RFP. Process questions can be directed to Ryan Bradley, Assistant Director for Administration, at ryan.bradley@scseagrant.org or Susannah Sheldon, Research and Fellowships Manager, at susannah.sheldon@scseagrant.org. Additional details can be found in the RFP.
